A $6,300 Boston University Tanglewood Institute Scholarship for Alabama singers, instrumentalists or pianists ages 14-18

The Montgomery Symphony is pleased to offer the MSO-BUTI Scholarship in the amount of $6,300 to a young Alabama musician attending the Summer 2012 Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI). BUTI is the high school division of the famed Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, MA. Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and draws talented musicians of all ages from around the world each year.

BUTI will offer extended programs this summer in orchestra, voice/choral, wind ensemble, piano, harp and composition. Two-week long workshops in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba/euphonium, double bass, percussion, and string quartet will be offered, as well.

MSO-BUTI Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
1.  Must be an Alabama musician aged 14-18
2.  Must be accepted by BUTI to a six-week program for the summer of 2012
3.  Must apply for a scholarship from BUTI as part of your BUTI application process
4.  Must complete a MSO-BUTI Scholarship application form and send to the
     Montgomery Symphony postmarked no later than March 1, 2012

LOCAL AUDITIONS FOR BUTI
Representatives from BUTI will be in residence at the 2012 Blount-Slawson Young Artists Competition on January 28, 2012, in Montgomery, Alabama.

Pianists and string players who are competing in the Blount-Slawson Competition can request that their performance in the Saturday preliminary round be considered as their formal audition for BUTI.

Vocalists (and pianists and instrumentalists not competing in Blount-Slawson) can schedule an audition for BUTI on Saturday, January 28th, in the late afternoon by contacting BUTI directly.

Wind and Brass Players: In addition to their performance in the preliminary round of the Blount-Slawson Competition, all wind and brass players are required to prepare and submit audition excerpts as part of their BUTI application.  A BUTI representative will be on-site on Saturday, January 28th, during the competition to record audition excerpts OR you are welcome to record your excerpts on CD and send to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute by the application deadline of February 7, 2012.  Please contact the BUTI office to set-up a recording time or to learn more about this specific requirement by calling 617-353-3386.  You can also email BUTI at tanglewd@bu.edu.
