The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and Huntingdon College
are pleased to announce the 14th annual Stringfellows Summer
Music Seminar, a “camp” to be held June 15-21, 2008 on the
beautiful campus of Huntingdon College in Montgomery,
Alabama.
Designed to serve as a preparatory program for students of
violin, viola, cello and bass, this seven-day residential
music camp will focus on building the musical skills
necessary for success on one’s instrument. Rising 7th - 9th
graders will form the core of the camp with other students
being admitted on a case-by-case basis.
Curriculum:
The camp’s activities will be anchored by a string orchestra
which will rehearse 2-3 times a day. Daily classes in music
history and theory will be offered. Performances by students
and faculty will be highlighted by the closing concert and
awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
Entrance Requirements:
All campers must be able to read music and should be able to
play two-octave scales in several keys. Experience in the positions is
helpful but not necessary. All campers will play for the
faculty at registration and complete a theory background
sheet to help determine the content of classes and the repertoire for the orchestra.
Campers must be recommended by their string teacher to be
considered for acceptance into Stringfellows.

a full range of social opportunities both on and off campus
will be offered.
Housing:

dormitories and will eat at the College Dining Hall. All
students will be expected to adhere to college and
