Maestra Laura Walters

Maestra Laura Walters is in her third year as Conductor of the Montgomery Youth Orchestra. Both a public school teacher and a musician, she has played double bass with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra in previous seasons. A native of Dayton, Ohio, she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from The University of Alabama and has taught secondary orchestra and band in Birmingham City, Montgomery Public Schools, and Pike Road Schools since 2013. Each year her string and band programs have participated in the Alabama Bandmasters Association and the Alabama Orchestra Association’s All-District Music Performance Assessments, always receiving Superior ratings. In January 2020, her Baldwin Chamber Orchestra performed at the Alabama Music Educators Association conference in Montgomery.  Maestra Laura Walters currently teaches music at Carver Elementary School in Montgomery, Alabama, and is pursuing her masters degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Alabama.
